Stamford, CT – May 8, 2026 – At 04:21, the Stamford 911 Center began receiving calls reporting a possible fire at 108 Woodmere Road.
In response to the emergency, a Structural Box Assignment comprising three Engines, one Truck, one Rescue, one Incident Commander, and a Rapid Intervention Team was initially dispatched.
While en route, responding units were advised that a person was still inside the house.
At 04:26, the first engine arrived on scene, reporting a WORKING FIRE in a 1½-story wood-frame residential structure with heavy fire coming from the front of the house. Engine Company 5, upon arrival, initiated firefighting efforts by stretching the first hoseline into the building while other crews began a search for victims. Fire crews encountered heavy fire on the first floor immediately inside the front door.
By 04:35, approximately nine minutes after the arrival of the first responders, the main body of the fire was successfully knocked down. The initial crew, upon extinguishing the main body of the fire, discovered a male victim who did not survive. Three other residents of the house were able to escape prior to Fire Department arrival. Two patients were transported by Stamford EMS to the hospital for evaluation and treatment of injuries sustained while attempting to rescue the other victim.
The fire was declared fully under control by the on-scene Incident Commander at 05:02.
Following containment of the fire, the Stamford Fire Marshal Division and Stamford Police Department initiated an investigation into the cause and origin of the fire, as is standard protocol. The Office of the State Fire Marshal and the Arson Task Force were also requested to the scene to assist with the investigation.
Eversource was called to the scene to secure utilities serving the affected property.
Additionally, Stamford EMS remained on standby throughout the operation to ensure the well-being of Stamford firefighters.
