The fire was contained to the building of origin due to the efforts of Stamford Firefighters.
STAMFORD, CT (June 4, 2024) – At 5:30 PM, Stamford firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at an auto repair business, located at 30 Dyke Lane.
Engine 2 and Truck 2 from the South End fire station arrived on scene in less than two minutes and found smoke and fire visible from the main garage door and all windows of a single story, commercial auto repair and auto body facility. In addition, smoke from the fire enveloped several of the adjacent streets and created zero visibility conditions within the neighborhood.
Due to the rapidly growing fire, firefighters immediately worked to contain the fire using large caliber hose streams.
A second alarm was struck upon the arrival of the Shift Commander, sending an additional engine and ladder company to the scene. First and second alarm companies worked to quickly bring the fire under control and contain the bulk of the fire damage to the building of origin. An adjacent building received minor fire damage.
The fire was placed under control within 45 minutes of the initial arrival. Firefighters remained on the scene for an additional 3 hours performing overhaul duties.
A total of 5 Engine Companies, 2 Truck Companies, 1 Heavy Rescue Company, and both on-duty Deputy Chiefs operated at the scene with a total of 50 fire department personnel.
There were no injuries to firefighters working at the scene.
One employee of the auto repair business sustained a minor injury as a result of the fire and was transported by Stamford Emergency Medical Services personnel to Stamford Hospital.
The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
Additional scene support was provided by the Stamford Police Department, Stamford Emergency Medical Services, Stamford Fire Department Training Division, and the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division.
“This was an all-hands effort led by first and second alarm companies. Initial arriving firefighters were confronted with a very dynamic and dangerous situation involving an auto repair facility. Due to the efforts of all responding Stamford firefighters, the fire was quickly brought under control and contained to the unit of origin, saving an adjacent property containing several businesses.” ~ Deputy Chief & Incident Commander Matt Palmer
