The injured construction worker was found inside an empty concrete water cistern

Stamford, CT (July 7, 2026) – At 1:29 PM, the Stamford Fire Department was dispatched to 375 Fairfield Avenue for an injured worker inside a water cistern/tank. The location is a large multi-purpose warehouse that is under construction.

Engine 3 and Truck 3 from the West Side Fire Station arrived on location in less than three minutes and confirmed that a male construction worker was injured and located at the bottom of a large and empty water cistern at the site. Additional resources arrived at the scene to support the removal of the injured man from the cistern.

A technical rescue operation was conducted by the members of Engine 5 and Rescue 1, assisted by Truck 2, Truck 3, and Engine 3’s personnel. Firefighters were able to quickly set-up a tripod and rope haul system to remove the worker.

The injured construction worker was removed from the cistern in less than 30 minutes and transported to Stamford Hospital for treatment.

Stamford Emergency Medical Services and the Stamford Police Department provided assistance at the scene.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration was called to the scene to investigate the incident.
