No Ongoing Danger to the Community

Between 6:30 PM and 7:20 PM on Thursday, November 14, the Stamford Fire Department received over a dozen 911 calls reporting what residents described as a series of loud explosions in the North Stamford area. These events were reportedly strong enough to shake homes and, in some cases, knock pictures off walls.

The Stamford Fire Department, Long Ridge Fire Company, and Turn of River Fire Department dispatched multiple fire apparatus to investigate. Despite an extensive search of the area, no source for the explosions was identified, and no external damage was found.

Early this morning, around 3:45 AM, an additional four reports were received, prompting the Long Ridge Fire Company and Stamford Fire Department to conduct a secondary investigation. Again, no anomalies or sources of concern were detected.

Both the Tennessee Gas Pipeline, which operates a major transmission line in the area and Eversource Gas have confirmed that their systems are functioning normally with no reported irregularities.

Reassuring Our Community

The Stamford Fire Department understands the concerns raised by these reports and the unease they may cause. However, based on thorough investigations conducted by multiple fire department units, as well as confirmations from the Tennessee Gas Pipeline and Eversource Gas, we feel confident reassuring Stamford residents that there is no ongoing threat to life or property.

While the precise cause of these events remains undetermined, we are actively consulting with experts, including the USGS, to explore all possible explanations. We will continue to monitor the situation closely and provide updates as new information becomes available.

The safety and well-being of our community remain our top priorities. In the meantime, residents can rest assured that there is no immediate danger, and we are committed to keeping Stamford informed as we investigate further.
