It is with deep regret, that the Stamford Fire Department announces the passing of Retired Stamford Firefighter James (Jimmy) Joseph McCann. James passed away at 87 years old in his home on March 11, 2021, where he lived with his loving wife of 62 years, Anita (Elumba). He is affectionally remembered by his 3 children, Maureen McCann from Boise, Idaho, Lori Sonntag (Robert) from Newtown and Sean McCann (Ellen) from Santa Clarita, CA. He is also remembered by his two grandchildren, Sean Sonntag and Kelly Rose McCann. Jimmy was predeceased by a sister, Helen Mullens.

Jimmy proudly served on the Stamford Fire Department for 39 years. He also served two years in the U. S. Army. He was born and lived in Stamford until his retirement in 1998, then relocated to Danbury. He especially loved spending time with his family and working around his homes. His favorite activities included clamming and fishing in Long Island Sound, as well as hunting with his dogs. Jimmy will always be remembered for his kindness and for going out of his way to help others.

There will be no services at this time. However, a Celebration of Life will be announced in the future.

Jimmy’s family wishes to extend a heartfelt thank you to the Nuvance Health Ambulance, the Danbury Police Department and the Danbury Fire Department, and would appreciate donations made in Jimmy’s honor.

The McCann’s would appreciate posts of any pictures folks from this group might have of Jimmy.
