Retired Fire Captain Donald Corrigan

It is with deep regret, that the Stamford Fire Department announces the passing of Retired Fire Captain Donald H. Corrigan.

Don is a beloved husband, father and friend. He passed away suddenly at his home on the afternoon of Tuesday, February 9, 2021. A native of Stamford, Donald was born July 17, 1950 to the late Donald J. and Eleonor Corrigan. He was 70 years old at the time of his passing.

Donald proudly served the City of Stamford as a Firefighter for 38 years. He was promoted to Captain in 1998; a position that he held for 18 years until his retirement in 2016. He selflessly gave his time and talents to the Stamford Fire Department and to the City of Stamford and was extremely proud of the work that he and department did. His infectious personality and tireless work ethic quickly made him a favorite among his peers.

Over the course of his life Donald touched countless lives and will forever be remembered for his compassion and relentless drive to make a difference for others. He was known for his loyalty to his family, friends and fire department, his integrity and honesty, and his ability to motivate and inspire others in his love of firefighting. He used to say that despite the inherent risks that came with being a firefighter, he just loved to help people and he could not see himself doing anything else.

Donald is survived by his beloved wife, Ester, and his stepchildren; Samya Beatriz, Francisco, and Isaac, as well as his son in-law, Andreas.

A celebration of Donald’s life will take place at the Nicholas F. Cognetta Funeral Home & Crematory from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Monday, February 15, 2021, with a prayer service beginning at 3 p.m. The interment will be private.
