Stamford Fire Department Responds to an overnight Residential Fire

Stamford, CT — August 31, 2026, 3:02 a.m. — The Stamford Fire Department responded to 91 Chestnut Hill Road in the North Stamford section of the city following a 911 call to the Stamford Emergency Communications Center from a resident reporting that their home was on fire and that another family member was still inside. The caller was attempting to assist the family member to safety.

Upon arrival, members of Engine Company 8 found heavy fire conditions in the rear of the home involving a screened porch, kitchen, and family room, with fire extending into the attic space and heavy smoke conditions throughout the 1½-story residence. Engine 8 deployed a large-caliber hose line and initiated a fire attack to knock down the exterior flames and direct water into the attic soffit area. The second-arriving Engine Company 9 stretched an interior line through the front door of the residence to extinguish the remaining fire in the first-floor kitchen and family room.

A tanker operation was utilized to provide a water supply to the structure fire in this rural area of Stamford. Portable pools were set up and filled by water tankers from the Turn of River Volunteer Fire Department, the Long Ridge Volunteer Fire Department, and Stamford's mutual-aid partners, including the Banksville, Pound Ridge, and New Canaan Fire Departments. These resources provided a continuous water supply to support firefighting operations.

Rescue Company 1 and Engine Company 7 conducted primary and secondary searches of the residence and confirmed that all occupants and their dog had safely exited the home prior to interior conditions deteriorating due to the smoke and fire. Truck Company 1 performed overhaul operations in the kitchen, family room, and attic space to ensure the fire had not extended beyond the area of origin.

The fire was brought under control within 54 minutes. The residence sustained heavy fire, smoke, and water damage. The American Red Cross was requested to assist three displaced residents and their pet.

No civilian or Firefighter injuries were reported.

The response included five Engine Companies, one Heavy Rescue Company, one Truck Company, Tankers from the Turn of River, Long Ridge, Banksville, Pound Ridge and New Canaan Fire Departments, the North District Deputy Chief, and the on-duty Shift Commander. Additional support was provided by the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division, Safety Officer, Fire Marshal's Office, and Stamford Emergency Medical Services.

The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office.
