(STAMFORD, CT) — August 14, 2026 — At 9:22 PM, Stamford firefighters responded to report of a structure fire at the Vela On The Park apartment building, located at 1011 Washington Blvd.

Upon arrival, fire crews located a kitchen fire in apartment 508. Firefighters successfully extinguished the fire using portable fire extinguishers prior to the activation of the building's fire sprinkler system. This rapid intervention prevented significant water damage to the apartment of origin and the apartments on the floors below.

Firefighters conducted a thorough search for occupants within the affected apartment, the floor above, and adjacent stairwells. All occupants evacuated safely, and no injuries were reported. Ventilation fans were deployed to clear a heavy smoke condition from the 5th floor.

The fire was declared under control at 9:50 PM.

Stamford Emergency Medical Services and the Stamford Police Department assisted at the scene.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office.
