Three Alarm Fire Damages Condominium Unit on Myano Lane

The Stamford Fire Department responded to a three alarm residential structure fire this evening at Oakwood Place Condominiums, located at 177 Myano Lane, Unit 504. Fire companies were dispatched at 7:55 p.m. after multiple 911 callers reported a fully involved fire.

Engine 3 was the first company to arrive and encountered heavy fire conditions involving the middle unit of a seven unit condominium building. Based on the volume of fire, a second alarm was requested immediately. As crews continued to battle rapidly advancing fire conditions and extension into the attic, a third alarm was struck at approximately 8:13 p.m., about 14 minutes after the initial arrival of Engine 3 to bring additional firefighters and equipment to the scene. This brought more than 50 Stamford Firefighters to the scene.

Firefighters quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack while simultaneously conducting searches of the fire apartment and the immediately adjacent units. All searches were completed with negative results.

The fire caused extensive damage to both floors of the apartment of origin and extended into the attic space. Through the coordinated efforts of responding firefighters, the fire was successfully confined to the apartment of origin. The two adjoining apartments sustained significant smoke and water damage but were spared major fire damage.

One occupant of the apartment where the fire originated sustained minor fire related injuries and was treated at the scene before being transported by Stamford EMS to Stamford Hospital. A second resident from an adjacent apartment experienced an unrelated medical emergency and was also transported to Stamford Hospital for evaluation.

One Stamford firefighter sustained a minor injury while operating at the scene and was transported to Stamford Hospital for evaluation.

The first alarm assignment consisted of three engine companies, two truck companies, one rescue company, an Incident Commander, and a Rapid Intervention Team. A second alarm added a second Deputy Chief to assist with incident management, along with an additional engine and truck company. A third alarm brought another engine company and truck company to the scene. Two Stamford Fire Department Safety Officers were assigned to oversee firefighter safety throughout the incident.

Norwalk Fire Deparment, Greenwich Fire Department and Belltown Volunteer Fire Depatrment provided station coverage in the downtown area during the fire.

Two families from were displaced as a result of the fire. One of the apartments was unoccupanied.

The Stamford Police Department assisted with traffic control, crowd management, and maintaining access to the scene on the narrow residential streets. Stamford EMS remained on scene throughout the incident, providing medical support to firefighters and residents.

The fire was declared under control at approximately 8:49 p.m., after which crews remained on scene performing overhaul operations, checking for hidden fire, and assisting displaced residents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Stamford Fire Department Fire Marshal's Office.
