Stamford, CT — October 18, 2025, 1:55 p.m. — The Stamford Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire at 73 Willowbrook Avenue in the Cove neighborhood of Stamford this afternoon.
Upon arrival, firefighters observed light smoke showing from the roof eaves of a two-and-a-half-story multi-residential home. Crews from Engine 4 and Engine 1 quickly initiated an aggressive interior attack, encountering heavy smoke conditions on the first floor, while Rescue 1 conducted a primary search for trapped occupants. The crew of Truck 2 ventilated the attic space using ground ladders and their apparatus’ tower ladder.
The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes and was contained to the attic, preventing further damage to the rest of the structure and adjoining units. All occupants safely evacuated prior to the fire department’s arrival, and no civilian or firefighter injuries were reported.
The residence sustained moderate fire and smoke damage due to the gable vents having been closed off with foam insulation and plywood sheathing, which prevented proper smoke ventilation from the structure. The American Red Cross was notified to assist displaced residents.
A total of four engine companies, one heavy rescue unit, one aerial apparatus, the on-duty Shift Commander, and the North District Deputy Chief responded to the incident. Additional support was provided by the Stamford Fire Department Safety Officer, Mechanical Division, and Fire Marshal’s Division, as well as Stamford Emergency Medical Services and the Stamford Police Department.
The cause and origin of the fire remain under investigation by the Stamford Fire Mashal’s Office.
