The fire was quickly contained by Stamford Firefighters

STAMFORD, CT (October 10, 2025) – At 11:41 PM, Stamford firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at an apartment building at 444 Bedford Street in downtown Stamford.

Engine 1 and Truck 1 from Central Fire Headquarters arrived on scene in less than three minutes and found smoke and fire visible from the top floor balcony of a nine-story apartment building. A Stamford Public Safety drone unit had also arrived on scene and was able to provide a video stream of the fire to the Combined Emergency Communications Center.

A second alarm was struck upon the arrival of the Shift Commander, sending an additional engine and ladder company to the scene. First and second alarm companies worked to quickly bring the fire under control and contain the bulk of the fire damage to the area of origin.

The fire was placed under control within 25 minutes of the initial arrival. Firefighters remained on the scene for an additional hour assisting the Stamford Fire Marshal's Office

A total of 5 Engine Companies, 3 Truck Companies, 1 Heavy Rescue Company, and both on-duty Deputy Chiefs operated at the scene with a total of 40 fire department personnel.

There were no injuries to firefighters working at the scene or residents within the building.

The Stamford Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.

Additional scene support was provided by Stamford Emergency Medical Services, the Stamford Fire Department Training Division, and the Stamford Fire Department Mechanical Division.

“Due to the time of day and location of this fire, the immediate efforts of Stamford firefighters prevented any injuries to the residents of this building and contained fire damage to the area of origin.”  ~ Deputy Chief & Incident Commander Matt Palmer
