Stamford, CT (September 12, 2024) – At 1:28 PM, Stamford firefighters were dispatched to a report of a fire in the basement at 87 Noble Street in the Waterside section of the city.

E2 and Truck 2 from the South End fire station arrived first and found heavy smoke originating from the basement of the multi-family residential structure.

When firefighters entered the basement, they quickly encountered an unconscious dog; and from that point on – as they continued to advance the hose line into the house – they kept locating more and more animals.

Firefighters credited the recently deployed thermal imaging cameras, now carried by every Stamford firefighter, with helping locate the unconscious animals and expedited their removal.

Firefighters and Stamford EMS personnel performed life-saving measures on some of the animals, and all were taken to Stamford’s Cornell University Veterinary Specialists. As of Thursday night, all the pets were doing well, except for one cat that died.

A total of 40 fire department personnel, along with Medics 1, 3, 4, and 901 from Stamford EMS operated at this fire. Scene support was provided by the Stamford Police Department & Animal Control, Stamford Fire Department’s Training & Mechanical Divisions, and the Stamford Health Department.

One firefighter suffered a minor injury, and the Stamford Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating the cause and origin of the fire.
