At approximately 6:40pm on Tuesday, June 20th 2023, the City of Stamford Combined Dispatch Center (911 Center) received a report of a dryer fire in the basement of a private residence at 9 Culloden Road. Fire Companies from the Eastside, Central, Glenbrook, and Woodside Stations responded to the scene. First arriving crews were met with moderate heat and smoke on the first floor of the residence and declared a working fire.  All residents had self-evacuated prior to Fire Department arrival.  Firefighters from Engine 4 stretched a hose line down the basement stairs and quickly extinguished the fire which had begun extending out of the dryer.  Additional crews on scene provided water supply, ventilation, searches, salvage, and overhaul.  The basement suffered heat and smoke damage, as well as smoke damage throughout the residence.  The incident was placed under control by on scene incident command at 7:07 pm.  The Stamford Fire Marshals Division is investigating the cause of the fire at this time.

The Stamford Fire Department response included 4 Engine Companies, 1 Truck Company, 1 Rescue Company,  1 Incident Commander, 1 Safety Officer, 1 Staff Chief, and 1 Scene Support Vehicle for a total of 29 personnel. Stamford EMS provided standby and there were no injuries to civilians or fire personnel.

The Stamford Fire Department would like to remind residents clean out the lint traps in their clothes dryers before every load to reduce the chance of fire.
