Firefighters Stabilized Damaged Garage and Safely Removed One Occupant from the Vehicle

STAMFORD, CT (July 19, 2021) – Firefighters responded to a vehicle that had collided into a house this afternoon on Ocean Drive North in the Shippan neighborhood of Stamford.

At 5:20 PM, a technical rescue response that included 2 Engine Companies, 1 Ladder Company, Rescue Company 1, a Safety Officer, and the Shift Commander responded to the scene. 

Engine Co. 4 arrived on location in 3 minutes and found that a passenger vehicle had collided with an attached garage of the residence at 6 Ocean Drive North.

Firefighters found a significant amount of damage to the garage area of home and immediately began efforts to stabilize the structure. Upon the arrival of Rescue Company 1, personnel used specialized struts to prevent the roof and front wall of the garage from further collapse. Once the area was stabilized, fire and EMS personnel safely removed one occupant of the vehicle.

The occupant of the vehicle was transported to Stamford Hospital by a Stamford Emergency Medical Services ambualance for evaluation.

Due to the amount of damage found, a representative from the City of Stamford Building Department also responded to the scene. Fire personnel remained on the scene for an additional hour to assist the towing company with the removal of the vehicle from the garage.

The Stamford Police Department is investigating the cause of the collision.
