Stamford Fire & Rescue Receives Polaris Ranger From UST

Polaris RangerJust weeks after UST and its USSTC subsidiary moved their headquarters in September 2007 from Greenwich, CT to nearby Stamford, the company demonstrated to the community its commitment to philanthropy by donating Polaris Rangers to both the Stamford Police and Fire departments.

The presentation of the two vehicles by USSTC President Dan Butler (left in photo) attracted a number of local officials, including Assistant Fire Chief John McCabe. Also on hand for the brief ceremony outside the company’s new offices was Stamford Mayor Dannel Malloy, who was later given a ride in one of the Rangers by Police Officer John Buehler.

Water That Christmas Tree!

What’s a holiday party or even the traditional Christmas morning scene itself without a beautifully decorated tree? If your household, as those of more than 33 million other American homes, includes a natural tree in its festivities, take to heart the sales person’s suggestion—”Keep the tree watered.” That’s good advice and not just to create a fragrant indoor winter wonderland atmosphere. Christmas trees account for 200 fires annually, resulting in 6 deaths, 25 injuries and more than $6 million in property damage. Typically shorts in electrical lights or open flames from candles, lighters or matches start tree fires. Well-watered trees are not a problem. Dry and neglected trees can be. A Season for Sharing in Fire Safety

Each year fires occurring during the holiday season injure 2,600 individuals and cause over $930 million in damage. According to the United States Fire Administration (USFA), there are simple life-saving steps you can take to ensure a safe and happy holiday. To Volunteer, Call Your Local Volunteer Fire Company, Not 911

The poster below is being circulated in and around Stamford by members of the “Big 5 Volunteer Fire Departments”. If you are interested in volunteering in one of the five fire departments mentioned in the poster, you should call those fire departments, not 911. If You Must Deep Fry Your Turkey, Here Are Some Safety Tips From The CPSC

WASHINGTON, D.C. - The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission is issuing safety tips for preventing fires and burns when using turkey fryers. Between 1998 and 2003, the CPSC received  reports of more than 75 incidents that involved fires, flames, or burns associated with turkey fryers.
